As the world locks down in its battle against the Corona Virus, we are busy behind the scenes, pressing pause on so many events and putting plans in place for when we are all allowed to play again. We are postponing weddings and events and rescheduling for later this year or pushing them into next.
The importance of a “pause” should not be underestimated. I’ve always built moments of quiet and inactivity into all of our weddings and events. It gives guests a chance to breathe, to reflect and to enjoy. It allows everyone to step back and appreciate the surroundings, the company, the atmosphere and the little touches which are so important to our clients.
For me as a planner, those moments of pause are invaluable. During build and set up, I make sure I get a chance to take stock, to fine tune plans and to make changes and improvements. You can only do this by taking time to pause, look, feel and think. During events, reflecting from afar allows me to pre-empt problems and to learn for the future. Pausing is an essential part of my job.
In celebration of the “pause”, during the Covid-19 lockdown I shall be sharing snapshots of my favourite quiet moments on my instagram page @biggreenspace . This is going to be something of a challenge for me as I rarely get a camera out during my events – I’m definitely more of a do-er, than a recorder! The images probably won’t be very pretty but it will be the moment, the pause behind the picture that is the important part of the story.

That quiet moment when the outside ceremony is set and ready to go, the guests are about to arrive... and then black clouds start rolling in. We held our nerve and were rewarded with dramatic but dry skies!

When the main build draws to a close is the perfect time for this. Writing snagging lists, thinking through the way people move through the structure, tweaking furniture positions, spotting opportunities to make improvements and ticking off checklists, amending guests lists etc... This pause in the build is a pretty important one for me.
